Where does our Sheepskin come from?

_DSC2799A sheepskin rug adds a instant touch of luxury to any room.  The plush texture and gorgeous appearance of Sheepskin cannot be matched. And where might these luscious sheepskin rugs come from? Our sheepskin rugs, blankets and pillows are made by the New Zealand based company, BOWRON SHEEPSKINS, who have been tanning and producing fine sheepskin products since 1879. Sheepskin is the hide of  the sheep that has been preserved with the wool still attached. Often it is used for rugs, mattress pads, clothing and accessories. Our Bowron Sheepskin rugs are sourced from Australian and New Zealand Flocks, and are processed, tanned and dyed at the Bowron tannery in Christchurch, New Zealand. To make use of this natural resource, the sheepskins are bi-products of the food industry. The base genetics of these sheepskins are New Zealand Romney Cross and Australian Merino Cross. The New Zealand sheep are bred primarily for meat and wool production, and the Australian sheep are renowned and bred for their fine quality wool type. Rather than focusing on the particular breed of sheep, Bowron sources sheepskins based on the quality and style required to produce their products. This ensures that all sheepskins are of the utmost quality. The wool can be trimmed down to the appropriate length depending on the type of rug. All sheepskin's will be processed, tanned and dyed to preserve the sheepskin and ensure a soft and quality 100% genuine natural sheepskin rug.
