How to clean sheepskin blankets and pillows
Sheepskin pillows and blankets will need to be cleaned on occasion. Here are the options you have when cleaning sheepskin blankets and pillows:
Spot Cleaning any of our Sheepskin Pillows and Blankets (for smaller stains)
For smaller stains spot cleaning is ideal. We recommend using our Eucalan Sheepskin Wash or a similar enzyme and bleach free cleaner. A detergent or wash with enzymes or bleach can dry sheepskin fibers and leather. The Eucalan cleaner contains lanolin, which maintains the health of your pillows and blankets.
Things you’ll need:
- Eucalan wool wash (or similar cleaner)
- Spray bottle
- Clean cloth
- Wool wire brush
Follow these steps for Spot Cleaning:
- Mix a cap-full of Eucalan cleaner with 500mL of warm water (100℉ / 38℃). We suggest putting the mixture in a spray bottle.
- Apply mixture to soiled/stained area of the sheepskin product.
- Rinse mixture out of product thoroughly.
- Use a dry clean towel, patting gently, to remove excess moisture.
- Lay out or line dry product. Make sure not to dry in direct heat or sunlight.
- Brush once while moist and one more time when completely dry.
Professional Cleaning (large or severe staining)
For stains/soilage too large to spot clean, we suggest bringing your pillow or blanket to a professional leather/sheepskin cleaner. Should you bring your decor to a dry cleaner, make sure they’re familiar with cleaning sheepskin.
Storage
- Do not store sheepskin pillows or blankets in a bag, box, or any sort non-breathable material. Sheepskin must be able to breathe; this ensures that your sheepskin decor will not dry out or be exposed to condensation.
- Be sure to store your sheepskin in a cool, well ventilated area.
- Do not store in direct sunlight or heat.
